Pathologists' Assistant Section Committees
PA Section Member Committees
The PA Section is comprised of an Executive Committee and several invaluable Sub-Committees.
The section is entirely run by incredibly hard working, creative, and dedicated volunteers. Please find the missions of each of our committees and a little bit of information about all of our committee members below:
The Executive Committee – made up of the Executive Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, and Past Chair. This committee is responsible for the big picture projects of the PA Section and interacting with the Board of the Canadian Association of Pathologists.
The Board of Committee Chairs – made up of the Executive Committee, the Chairs of each of the Subcomittees and the AAPA Liason
The Education Committee – committed to creating educational content and continuing educational opportunities for pathologists’ assistants in Canada
The Advocacy Committee – active in advocating for pathologists’ assistants as individuals, as a community, and their role in healthcare in Canada
The Communications Committee – engaged in communicating with the pathologists’ assistant community and promoting the profession through their website and through their social media platforms
The Student Committee – made up of representatives of first and second year students of all of the pathologists’ assistant graduate programs in Canada. This committee is responsible for student outreach and engagement.

Katie Greenall
Executive Committee Chair
Katie is a CCCPA-CCCAP certified Pathologists’ Assistant based in Toronto, Ontario. A graduate of the Western University Pathologists’ Assistant Masters Program, Katie has been a driving force in the visibility, continuing education and advocacy for the PA profession. She works tirelessly to increase respect for the recognition of PAs in Canada.
Taylor Horlock
Executive Committee Secretary
Taylor is a CCCPA-CCCAP and ASCP certified Pathologists’ Assistant based in Vernon, British Columbia. She is a graduate of the Master of Pathologists’ Assistant program at the University of Calgary, and has a strong desire to ensure all members of the PA Section have adequate opportunities for professional development.
Danielle Lee Davis
Executive Committee Past Chair
Danielle is a CCCPA-CCCAP certified On the Job Trained Pathologists’ Assistant in Edmonton, Alberta. She began grossing in 1996, and never looked back. Danielle recently served her third non-consecutive term as the Chair of the PA Section of the CAP-ACP, and she is the founding CEO of the CCCPA-CCCAP. She has and continues to be a powerful force in advocating for the PA profession in Canada. She is now the CEO of her own company, Pathology Solutions, Inc.
Bill Gorday
AAPA Liason
Bill is a CCCPA-CCCAP and ASCP certified Pathologists’ Assistant living in Calgary, Alberta. He is a graduate of the University of Calgary Pathologists’ Assistant Masters program, and is now the Program Director of their program. Bill has been instrumental in so many projects related to student advocacy and education. He is passionate about pathology, and strongly believes in continuing to elevate the profession of PA in Canada.

Emily Kyle

Emily is a CCCPA-CCCAP and ASCP certified Pathologists’ Assistant based in Peterborough, Ontario. She has a Master of Clinical Anatomy, as well as a graduate of the Western University PA program. ASCP and the CCCPA. In addition to her work with the PA Section, she is also on the CCCPA-CCCAP Exam Committee. She is passionate about teaching anatomy and pathology whenever she can.
Maria Paula Arias
Education Committee Member
Maria Paula is a soon-to-be CCCPA-CCCAP certified Pathologists’ Assistant based in Kitchener, ON. She’s currently preparing to write her certification exams in 2026. Maria Paula graduated from the Western University MClSc Pathologists’ Assistant Graduate Program and is currently employed at the Waterloo Regional Health Network (WRHN). She enjoys teaching students during their clinical placements and loves sharing her passion for the field by helping others learn more about the important work Pathologists’ Assistants do.
Akeida Elliot-Benjamin

Akeida is a CCCPA-CCCAP and ASCP certified Pathologists’ Assistant currently in residing in British Columbia. She is a graduate of the Western University MCISc Pathologists’ Assistant Gradate Program. Akeida loves to learn, and is excited to create learning opportunities nationally for students, new graduates and veteran PAs as well as highlight the essential nature of the role in health care.
Nicole Herbers

Nicole is a CCCPA-CCCAP and ASCP certified Pathologists’ Assistant, currently based in Edmonton, Alberta. She is a graduate of the Western University MClSc Pathologists’ Assistant Graduate Program, and is now a PA Supervisor as well as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Alberta. She is passionate about teaching and providing continuing educational opportunities for PAs across the country.
Michelle Malig

Michelle is a CCCPA-CCCAP and ASCP certified Pathologists’ Assistant currently based in Toronto, Ontario. She has endless energy, enjoys teaching, and providing learning opportunities for students, new graduates, and veteran PAs. She works hard on the PA Section Newsletter, and is busy creating new projects with the Education Committee.

Kaelyn Wagland
Advocacy Committee Secretary
Kaelyn is a CCCPA-CCCAP and ASCP certified Pathologists’ Assistant based in Vancouver. She earned her master’s degree from the University of Calgary and is passionate about education, research, and advancing the PA profession. As a clinical instructor at the University of British Columbia, she enjoys mentoring residents and helping them develop their confidence in grossing. Her research focuses on integrating technology into lab practices and pathology education. Through advocacy, Kaelyn is committed to raising awareness of the PA role and supporting the next generation of professionals.
Gabriel Tran
Advocacy Committee Member
Gabriel is a CCCPA-CCCAP certified Pathologists’ Assistant based in Toronto, Ontario. After earning his Master’s degree from the University of Calgary, Gabriel went on to work at the University Health Network where he trains PA students and pathology residents on autopsy and grossing skills. His goal in the advocacy committee is to raise visibility of PAs in Canada by creating art and apparel that will spark the general public’s curiosity and provide insight into the essential importance of the profession.
Richard Li
Advocacy Committee Member
Richard is a CCCPA-CCCAP certified PA with background in pharmagology and toxicology before obtaining his Master’s degree from the University of Calgary. Currently he works at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver and as a clinical instructor affiliated with UBC. His favourite organ to gross is breast, and favourite music to listen to while grossing is anything by Taylor Swift. It is his great pleasure to be a member of the Advocacy Committee.

Emmanuelle is a CCCPA-CCCAP certified On the Job trained Pathologists’ Assistant in Toronto, Ontario. She has been an incredible educator in the field of pathology, involved in many student elevating projects and committees. She is currently employed the Michener Institute of Education as the Operations Manager of their Surgical Simulation Centre
Crystal Leung
Advocacy Committee Member
Crystal is a CCCPA-CCCAP and ASCP certified PA from the Duke University Pathologists’ Assistant program. She is currently the PA Supervisor at her hospital in Vancouver, BC, as well as a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at UBC. Crystal is excited to be part of the Advocacy Committee and she is dedicated to raising the awareness of the PA profession to the general public, as well as elevating the profile and recognition of PAs in Canada.
Irina Shipilova

Irina is a CCCPA-CCCAP certified Pathologists’ Assistant based in Hamilton, Ontario. A graduate of the Rostov State Medical University, Irina has been a strong and dynamic advocate for the PA profession and a passionate educator of and for physicians about the essential role of PAs and pathology labs in the healthcare system

Veronique Comeau

Veronique is a CCPA-CCCAP certified Pathologists’ Assistant currently practicing in Moncton, New Brunswick. Shortly after receiving her certification she joined the communications committee because she is dedicated to promoting the profession on a national and international level. She also serves as the unofficial French translator.
Joanna Pearce

Joanna is a CCCPA-CCCAP certified Pathologists’ Assistant, currently based in Edmonton, Alberta. She is a graduate of the Western University MClSc Pathologists’ Assistant graduate program, and joined as a Communications Committee Member with the PA Section to share educational resources, and provide a peek behind the laboratory doors to all those curious.
Megan Maitland
CCCPA-CCCAP Communications Committee Representative
Graduate of the University of Calgary Masters of Pathologists’ Assistant Program in 2020, Megan is a CCCPA-CCCAP certified PA, currently employed in Ottawa, Ontario. Her primary role with the CCCPA-CCCAP Board of Directors is to promote visibility, communication, and to advocate for the profession. To further this agenda, she works closely with the CAP-ACP PA Section Communications Committee to collaborate on social media initiatives and other projects to increase engagement within the PA community.
Kristin Sargent

Kristin is a CCCPA-CCCAP certified On the Job Trained Pathologists’ Assistant based in Bathurst, New Brunswick. She is excited to increase public awareness of the Pathologists’ Assistant profession through social media, as well as use her love for photography to capture quality photos of specimens for opportunities to educate fellow PAs, students, and the general public. Kristin is also excited about the expanse of projects that are being built in the Communications Committee. Her favorite organ to gross is the kidney!

Ashlyn Kim

Ashlyn is a second year Pathologists’ Assistant student at Western University. She is the PA Section’s Student Committee Co-Chair, promoting education and visibility on the field. She is eager to develop her skills as a PA and contribute to the future of this field.
Emmanuel Thomas

Emmanuel is a Pathologists’ Assistant student pursuing his Master’s degree in Canada. Building on a strong foundation in Biological Sciences and experience as a Medical Laboratory Assistant, he brings both technical expertise and a deep commitment to quality patient care. Emmanuel is passionate about promoting the visibility, professional growth, and recognition of Pathologists’ Assistants across Canada’s healthcare landscape.
Tiffany Schulz

Tiffany is a second year PA student in the University of Calgary’s Pathologists’ Assistant program. Originally from Vancouver, BC, she joined the program to pursue her passion for anatomy, grossing, and advancing her career in pathology. Tiffany is excited to serve on the Student Committee and looks forward to fostering community and engagement amongst PA students across Canada
Natalie Fawzy

Natalie is a Health Sciences graduate from Wilfrid Laurier University and is currently in her first year of the Pathologists’ Assistant program at Western University. She is looking forward to planning and hosting events with the PA Section team to share knowledge of the Pathologists’ Assistant field with other learners and the public.
Riley Fidler
Student Committee Member
Riley is a first-year student in the University of Calgary’s Pathologists’ Assistant program, with a background in Infectious Diseases from Western University. She is passionate about understanding disease mechanisms and is drawn to the technical skill, anatomical expertise, and attention to detail that PAs contribute to patient diagnoses. As a member of the Student Committee, Riley is excited to help foster a supportive and engaged community for PA students across Canada.
Sahara Haas

Sahara is currently a first year Pathologists’ Assistant student at the University of Toronto. She previously completed a Masters at the University of Toronto in Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology. Sahara is excited to be part of the PA Section Student Committee and to ensure her peers are supported. She is passionate about increasing awareness of the PA profession, mentorship, and research.
Shelley Xue

Shelley is a second year Pathologists’ Assistant student at the University of Toronto. She completed her undergraduate at Western University in London, Ontario. She is excited to be part of the PA Section Student Committee and advocate for the PA profession in Canada’s healthcare community while also further developing her skills and knowledge as a PA.
