What is a PA?
Learn More about Canadian PA Certification
A pathologists’ assistant is a highly trained physician extender responsible for the macroscopic examination and dissection of surgical specimens in a process termed “grossing”. Through this process, the PA submits samples of the specimen along with a specimen description to a pathologist, who makes a histologic diagnosis based on the microscopy and gross description.
Pathologists’ assistants are not physician assistants. The pathologists’ assistant profession is not currently regulated in Canada.
